Understanding PTSD for Veterans

Post-traumatic stress disorder, commonly knowns as PTSD, is a mental health condition that can occur in individuals who have experienced a traumatic event. The health condition impacts about 7% of Americans and is considered a natural reaction to trauma such as physical assault, sexual abuse, violence or other serious accidents.

It’s been recorded that about eight million adults suffer from PTSD, however, one population is particularly impacted by this disorder. American veterans often witness injuries, death and other serious events in war and noncombat situations. Due to the intensity of the trauma, PTSD can affect veterans throughout their lifetimes.
